Chris Bramble Band: Music

Child of Mine

(Chris Bramble Band)
2006-02-11
My parenting song. The hardest part is not staying up late, changing dialers, etc; its knowing that your child will experience pain in the world and will suffer, as you have.
Child of Mine ©1997 Chris Bramble
(recorded live at Ace in the Hole, Graton CA 2/11/06)

Child of mine, chasing butterflies in the wind
Laughing at the magic in every flower that's ever been
I ask myself "How long can the river hold onto its song?
How long before the blue skies shade to ashen grey?"
Child of mine how often I wonder "What's on their minds?
They're digging fool's gold with guilty hands that only wither the Land."

Child of mine I see the years flowing through your eyes
Such a fine line between old and new, between yours and mine
Sweet child if there's just one thing you learn from my life
Don't ever let your doubt come between you and your dream
Child of mine I hear you crying close behind
I'll turn and take your hand, we'll walk awhile through their withered land

Child of mine I see our roads part in the setting sun
In the struggle to find your own way
You must strengthen your wings for the winds howl louder every day
Fly above the rain and follow the sun on home
Child of mine you can leave the crying far behind
Don't let them take your hands and chain you fast to their withered land
