Widow's Tears

I wrote this after a spate of Civil War films and realizing that there have always been people of spirit and understanding who know how deeply wrong warfare truly is.

(studio recording from "Laugh at the Wind")

From time without end
This world has seen
Fire and steel and cries of pain
Flags and the bugles calling
Young men to false glory and war

Few are those that know
The lies these young men hold
Will be brushed aside
By the angel's wing
That day of Reckoning morn

For on that Day heaven's horns
Will call the war-weary home
And the widow's tears will fall no more
That Day's dawning bright and clear

Waves of young men crashing
On the cliffs of smoke and blazing
A vision no more to be seen
That day when black hearts
Are made clean

For on that Day heaven's horns........

The young men finally returning
Dark in their boxes of pine
Their sweethearts all aweeping
Never to see them
Till our heavenly home

For on that Day heaven's horns.........
